Is Your Pet’s Bed Safe?

Did you know that most pet beds on the market are made in China and contain dangerous chemicals called Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) commonly known as flame retardants?

So why is this a problem? Well, PBDEs are known to be neurotoxic (meaning they affect the brain), they are carcinogenic, and they affect the thyroid and liver of all animals. Bottom line, lower quality beds are dangerous for your pets and you!

So, how can you eliminate this common danger in your home?

First, think about upgrading Fido’s sleeping spot, some brands we love include Bowsers Pet Products and West Paw Design. Which are environmentally safe and toxin free. If you let your precious pup sleep in your bed with you (no judgment we do it too) you can think about upgrading your own mattress to something chemical free and ideally organic.

Second, you can purchase an air purifier to put in your room or wherever your pet sleeps. A good air filter will use a HEPA filter and remove anything nasty leeching into your air! Greenery is also a natural way to have your air cleaned.
